Learn about the Regulatory Aspects of Video Surveillance
ABP's mission is to help Resellers of IP Technology solutions in the fields of Voice, Data and Video. We have special practices for IP Telephony, Video Surveillance and Video Conferencing.
CCTV and Surveillance is different than Voice and Data in that it requires resellers to get licensed and adhere to different state or city regulations. These regulations are meant to protect the consumer and can also help the reseller because regulations constitute a barrier of entry into the market which protects the resellers that went through the effort of getting licensed.
ABP will help Telephony and Data VARS that have projects in IP Surveillance and are not licensed to find licensed installers just as we assist CCTV Integrators that need help with IP networking or system setup from one of our data integrators.
Overall we recommend all CCTV installers to go through ABP's basic training in Mobotix IP Camera Solutions first followed by a Mobotix certification training 30-60 days later. All resellers and integrators that plan to operate in this field by themselves should research the regulatory circumstances, in their respective regions, and apply for their licenses ASAP. Every state will be different and this can be something as easy as filling out a background check and getting a license number or can be quite involved.
Not getting licensed can cost you fines and hurt your business.
Below you will find a link to the Texas Department of Public Safety which licenses Security companies in Texas. For all non Texas customers please check with your state and city authorities, It makes good sense to comply with all regulatory requirements in your states so you can fully participate in the growth in this space. It can take up to six months or even more depending on region to get all this done. In many cases ABP Resellers can partner with other ABP Resellers that already have their license. We will help them find a suitable partner.
It's good to start as soon as possible to be ready. Regulations have a silver lining with less people actually going through and getting certified and licensed. There is less competition and usually better margins than in the less regulated Telecom dealer or IT integrator space.
